Eternal Cult presents:
RABBIT: An Original Rabbit Tragedy.
What does it mean to fail deeply and totally at every goal you’ve ever had? How can we keep going after terrible things happen? Why can’t we just get what we want? With the help of an opera singing Greek chorus, “Rabbit” follows a modern tragic hero, a cottontail rabbit named Jonathan, as he struggles against a run of very bad luck. After he is snatched away from his wife and family by a giant hawk, his odyssey to return home is a near constant struggle against forces both natural and supernatural. Is it fate? Is it a path? Is there meaning? Or is all of it just a bunch of random crappiness raining down upon him? Upon us all?
Written by Jon Mac Cole and Savannah Reich.
Directed by Jon Mac Cole, Savannah Reich and Christopher Allen.
Original music by Anna Young. Set design and construction by Emma Alves.
Starring:

The Dark Side of Whales & Dolphins in Captivity
Film Screening with Q & A and Book Signing
On Wednesday, October 10, 2012, the local humane education organization "22reasons" will be presenting a free screening of the documentary "Lolita - Slave to Entertainment." Tim Gorski, writer, director and editor of this film as well as the recently released "How I Became an Elephant," will speak about his experiences filming the documentary, and author David Kirby will read an excerpt from his recently published book, "Death at SeaWorld: Shamu and the Dark Side of Killer Whales in Captivity" and sign copies.
Lolita is an orca confined in a small tank at the Miami Seaquarium since 1970 when she was taken from her family pod in the ocean - she was just two years old. Just this summer (August 2012), PeTA and the Animal Legal Defense Fund filed a lawsuit against the USDA challenging the renewal of Miami Seaquarium's license.
"This provocative and revealing must-see documentary uniquely addresses man's relationship with wildlife. It speaks not only to animal lovers and activists, but to anyone at all who may have been duped by marine theme park propaganda. In fact, this is the film that an entire industry would rather you not see." ~ Valerie Silidker - Vice President, Rattle the Cage Productions

Rita Jones started out at the Hedgrow Theatre and the Philadelphia Dance Academy. From there she moved on to New York, where she studied at the Martha Graham Studio and performed with the Morelli Ballet and Simonsen-Jazz. Among numerous other roles, she was chosen by Ferdinand Mault to perform Hamlet at the Northeast Regional Ballet in Toronto, Canada. For some time, she has been moving toward a deeper integration of music and drama, especially with an eye towards dramatic representations of the Classics. Performer bios for 11/21/12 show: Biancia Boom- Influenced by female artists like Odetta and Joni Mitchell, Bianca Boom puts her own take on accoustics. A player of strings and electric things, her favorite color is Blue. Counting rap as a form of folk music, she's sure to give you a different take on the world. Letting her eclectic heritage guide music from the Soul. Penning her first book of songs at 15 on guitar, and dropping out of college to become a singer, Bianca freestyle rapped and sang her way across the US and echoed her voice in the hills of North Carolina as a member of Granola Funk Express in the late 90's, before moving to Philadelphia in 1999 where she found herself as fiddle player. Having played fiddle on such stages as the Mann Music Center, the Cleff Club, and the Painted Bride so early in her career, she was thrown deep into her lessons of the rich musical heritage Philly has to offer. In picking her guitar back up and producing her first demo in 2007, she has followed with singles and continued to collaborate with local talent on various live and recorded projects. In 2012, she brings to bear a sound that takes you through the stories of her many travels through the US and the World in the spirit of Reggae, Blues, Folk, and Hip-Hop. the Femme-mynistiques- Trio of sis-starz merging forces w/ fresh beats, mystic vocals, rhymes & lyrical poetics devoted to the “femminine mystic”. Kalamandir Dance Company- Kalamandir Dance Company (501c3) is a contemporary dance ensemble that uses the vocabulary of classical Indian dance to explore new spaces of artistic expression. Instead of diminishing the foundation of our classical styles, we look to investigate their communicative potential when merged with Western dance traditions. Using Odissi, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Capoeira, Flamenco, Modern and Ballet training, our dancers collaboratively converse with movement and create dialogue with expression. We are driven by creativity, human emotions, and a desire to be released from the four walls of our daily existence. Our movement vocabulary is a collective effort that aims to create a reachable area for all people to participate and communicate. Artistic Director, Malabika Guha presents the piece “The Love That Remains”. Based on the Portuguese word “saudades,” this piece explores the fervent state of longing by channeling the painful sweetness of remembering a loved one from whom we have been separated while reveling in the joy that they may return (see link above for more info)! presents
Gate series
featuring:
KALISHNIKOV (Jamie Saft / Mike Pride)
EARTHEATER (Eli Litwin, Eric Slick, Travis Woodson)
TRISTAN DAHN
ABOUT THE EVENT
Kalashnikov is Jamie Saft (keyboards, bass) and Mike Pride (drums, percussion, vocals)- a rhythmic onslaught of epic proportions. Saft's brutal bass and doom keyboard sonics pummel alongside Pride's death drum and vocal assault. Kalashnikov's debut release "Bang Bang" arrived on Veal Records in spring 2008, the 14 hour epic, free download “1-666-CALL-SAAD” arrived in 2011. Individually they've been featured with Bad Brains, the Beastie Boys, the B-52's, Boredoms, Punk-Rock legends MDC (Millions of Dead Cops), John Zorn, Eugene Chadbourne, Anthony Braxton, Sony Simmons, Nels Cline, George Lewis, and Laurie Anderson. Collectively they are the anchor for Whoopie Pie (w/ Bill McHenry), Angel OV Death (w/ Andrew D’Angelo), and The Spanish Donkey (w/ Joe Morris).
Eartheater is a freely improvising trio that aims to create a spacious and dense sound worthy of its name. The group consists of three versatile, experienced musicians by the names of Eli Litwin, Eric Slick, and Travis Woodson. Eli Litwin released a freely improvised, extreme metal solo album called Intensus (Metal Blade Records) in 2011. He has also played in Normal Love, Inzinzac, Knife the Glitter and Gun Muffs, among others. Eric Slick began his career drumming for the Adrian Belew Power Trio. He has also performed with Ike Willis, Jon Anderson (Yes), Ween, John Wetton (King Crimson), Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart), and Project/Object, among many others. He is currently the drummer of Dr. Dog. Travis Woodson is a budding composer, improviser, multi-instrumentalist that has played with Make a Rising, Live Like A King, Split Red, Electric Simcha and various others. He recently composed and arranged music for three guitars.
Based in West Philadelphia, Tristan Dahn improvises on a wide range of instruments. Employing both standard instruments like guitar and piano, as well as more adventurous instruments (among them guzheng and shruti box), Dahn creates atmospheric soundscapes that are simultaneously abstract and highly narrative. His compositions (often Terry Riley-esque minimalist drone) stretch themselves out over time, with Dahn giving them ample room to loom and fall.
