Mischa Machez is a jazz-funk groove-oriented trio that combines contemporary grooves, traditional musical forms, and an array of musical genres to create a diverse pallet of modern jazz hybrid material.
Along with their love of infectious heartfelt jamming, Mischa Machez members, David Dzubinski, Jason Fifield and Phil Horwitz employ the rich tapestry of music history to create a sound that is both powerful and enlightening. Upright bassist Jason Fifield has played for the Meters, Parliament, Charlie Hunter and performed with Joe Russo (Marco Benevento), G. Love, and Korey Riker (the Roots). Keyboardist David Dzubinski has played with John Swana, G. Calvin Weston (Lounge Lizards, Ornette Colman), Kayle Brecher, Elliot Levin, and has had works published by Freddie Hubbard’s Hubtones and played for groups like Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk and others. While at the Berklee College of Music, drummer Phil Horwitz has had the pleasure of playing with the likes of John Abercrombie, John Scofield, and Joanne Brackeen. Together, Mischa Machez is larger than the sum of its players.
A Mischa Machez performance contains a myriad of original material as well as new spins on music from the likes of Buffalo Springfield, John Lennon, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Norah Jones, Medeski Martin and Wood, Abdullah Ibrahim, Bob Marley and Thelonious Monk. Mischa Machez: a fresh experience every time you hear them.
