Cheap Art at 7:30 • Cabaret at 8pm

If we’ve done our math correctly, the last day of November and the first of December will be Puppet Uprising’s 13th Annual Year-End Cabaret. Acts featured include cross-dressing Spanish love songs by UPHOLSTERY CON PAPOS, cardboard romances by FLYING DONKEY PUPPET TROUPE, a disembodied meditation by the MEDIUM THEATRE COMPANY, the self-explanatory antics of MR. & MRS MAGOO'S TRAVELING TRASH PUPPET CIRCUS, and an annual visit from alien instrument-maker the GREAT QUENTINI. Also, in the spirit of Puppet Uprising’s radical roots, artists from OCCUPY WALL STREET come down from NYC to grace us with some news-of-the-day styled performance around relief from Hurricane Sandy, and New Orleanean hula-hooper extraordinaire MARY-GO-ROUND invites you to try your hand at a life-size game of ring-toss. All that, and Clint Eastwoood doing stand-up comedy too.
For more info, visit puppetuprising.com or call 267-909-2633 (and please note: we haven’t sold out by becoming a dot-com—our old dot-org web address was hijacked by a Japanese dating site).
Donations Solicited at the door.

Vitamin D Productions returns with the annual Worlds Peace Festival, featuring a wide array of local and touring acts.
In Vitamin D's words: "Celebrating 12 years of music in Philadelphia! Our annual World Peace Festival is every year in December. The World Peace festival started out more than 12 years ago at The Rotunda. Along the way, we have produced shows at venues like The Tin Angel, World Cafe Life and Clark Park. We have supported up and coming bands, known bands and un-knowns! The age groups of performers has ranged from 9 - late 60s.
A FREE, ALL AGE FESTIVAL!!!!!!! Always free, all ages, hosted and supported by Vitamin D and The Rotunda!
The festival was created to cross pollinate our old school artists and performers in West Philly with the newcomers and current University students, as well as create an environment of diversity with musicians, vendors and attendee's to create a WORLD PEACE ATMOSPHERE! We have expanded into all the joining neighborhoods such as South Philly, Norther Libs., NE Philly and more!
Every year, we try to bring attention to something that is World-news related, or honor past performers or causes. Bobby Wolter will always be remembered as one of the most fantastic drummers I ever had the pleasure of knowing and a man who supported many of my festivals. Vitamin D Productions would like to honor the Mayan's with respect to their predictions! Bringing in the new year with the Mayan's prediction including "The world will change as we know it!" Hopefully that means it will change for the better! COME OUT AND CELEBRATE!"

The Really Cooks are Philadelphia's only "Food Rock" Band. They've created a half-human half-cartoon world in which music and food are more than platonic friends - They are lifelong lovers. The band combines late period 60's pop with a quirky American showtune aesthetic to craft catchy, palate-pleasing pop tunes. Food Accompanies their presence on-stage and off; Recipes, chef regalia and homemade hors d'oeuvres have their fans, singing dancing and cooking along with them. Food Music and Sex are inarguably the three basic necessities for survival. The Really Cooks can guarantee at least two....at least! facebook.com/thereallycooks, twitter.com/thereallycooks, reverbnation.com/thereallycooks
Ella Dars is a (mostly) acoustic band based in Philadelphia whose beautiful songs
emanate bittersweet melancholy that you can dance to. The band emerged from the longtime friendship of singer/guitarist Susan Rosetti and multi-instrumentalist Steve Margulis, who worked together in the 1990’s bands Boy Boy Nova and Cory. After the breakup of Cory, Susan went on to enjoy regional success with the bands Stargazer Lily and Slo-Mo, while Steve pursued his interest in bluegrass and old-time music. Through the years, they maintained their friendship and when Susan lined up her first solo gig, she called on Steve to join her. They brought in bassist Brad Haberle, whom Steve had met in local bluegrass circles, and Mike Blanche, the original drummer in Cory. Together, they create a sensual and original sound that is characterized by mandolin, ukulele and banjo and distinguished by Susan’s alluring voice and haunting melodies.
Alien Architect writes, paints, arts, plays instruments, vocalizes, performs theatrically. He digs his band. He loves to play and art all the time! An Alien Architect film is in the works, being finished up, set to this Alien Architect musical piecing:

Inky Glass, Blues for the Lost Soul
Inky started out in the theater as a "Triple Threat". She has performed internationally as such in established and original work, tap dancing, singing, acting, and doing an annoying street mime act based on Charlie Chaplain. Since 2008, Inky picked up her guitar, and has been singing the Blues in Coffeehouses, Festivals, and Bars up and down the East Coast. Inky is influenced by a wide variety of brilliant artists with favorites such as Robert Johnson, Janis Joplin, Leonard Cohen, Big Mama Thornton, Bob Dylan and Lou Reed; Inky's sound is Smokey, achy, and opaque. She’s got thoughtful emotion pulling lyrics, and one powerhouse of a voice. If you don’t already drink Jack Daniels, you will after you hear her. "Inky Glass has a raw, genuine delivery and a somewhat ironic songwriting style. Her lyrics take you by surprise, and while they may be a little dark, they do display a clever use of words." Admin – Indie-Music.com "...Glass' stark, simple explanations provide a more artistic view than the most high-brow poetry... Miss Fit represents the mostly lucid triangulations of a mind that's traveled life's emotional rough waters. Wildy Haskel – WildysWorld.com "She is definitely a talent, singer Inky Glass. She lets With her debut CD. "Miss Fit" a huge impression on me...she sings in a way that the inside of the human brain in stirring vigorously. Twenty minutes is the singer and understated then raw and furious..." Johan Shoemacker Altcountryfolk.org

The John Byrne Band is led by former Patrick’s Head front man and Dublin native John Byrne. His first solo effort, After the Wake, was released to great critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic in 2010. With influences ranging from The Chieftains to Planxty to Bob Dylan, John’s songwriting honors and expands upon the musical and lyrical
traditions of his native and adopted homes. John and the band promoted the albums with a series of sold out shows at World Café Live in Philadelphia and many of the East Coast’s premiere live acoustic venues. In the past year John and the band have sold out World Cafe Live on 4 separate occasions, in Feb 2011 bringing 500 jubilant fans to the storied Philadelphia venue. John has toured with and opened up for acts as diverse as The Hothouse Flowers, The Young Dubliners, Ian Gillan (of Deep Purple), Gaelic Storm,The Screaming Orphans, Black 47, The Greencards, The Motels, Patti Smyth, Murder by Death and Enter the Haggis. He has also been frequently featured on WXPN, NBC 10 (2 live performances on the 10! Show) WSTW and local College Radio. John and the Band performed the VIP reception for the Liberty Medal Presentation at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia before President Bill Clinton and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair alongside the Irish Tenors. John continues to tour throughout the United States, building his fan base while also playing solidly in the New York/N/Philadelphia area. “John Byrne’s After The Wake is the sort of album that an artist spends their entire career trying to create. Every once in a while someone actually manages to do it; mix splendid story-telling skills, top-notch musicianship, and a grand creative sense with just the right mix of songs. After The Wake is nothing short of a brilliant collection”
Wildy’s World “One of the few musical artists today who truly manage to be traditional and modern at the same time.” ---Philadelphia Inquirer “Up and coming Trad star hits the sweet spot . . . beautifully played . . . its Byrne’s natural vocal delivery that makes
the album stand out from the crowd” Hot Press (Ireland) “He’s good, period, with material that’s edgy yet accessible in a Luka Bloom meets Bob Dylan kind of way.”---Philadelphia Daily News “After the Wake is the perfect combination of Celtic and American folk music.” ---Record-Journal Newspaper

Steven Garnet, in his own words: "My name is Steven Garnet and I am a guitarist/vocalist from NYC now living in the Philly area. I play classic rock, folk & blues from the 1960s & 1970s. I take pride in my playing and to that end, I always do my best to give the audience the best show. Now, Let’s have a good time!
Philadelphia based Bible Whales asks the listener to join them in a battle against a broken economy, a broken home and lost loves With stories of inherited struggle, broken dreams and the faith and heart to persevere, the songs are ones of hope amidst constant financial struggle, heartache, questions of self-relevance and self-reliance. They are to be an inspiration and anthem to a lost generation of 20/30 something’s struggling to find meaning and value in a time where losing your shirt is now not only the norm but expected. Pulling inspiration from the romanticism and hope of Bruce Springsteen, the skepticism and angst of a young Elvis Costello and modern sounds and energy of The National and Arcade Fire, brothers Jarrad and Evan Stallone are joined with Tom Wolter (Drums), Jeremy Hahn (Guitar) and Bobby Carra (Bass). http://Facebook/BIBLEWHALES

Event Horizon
presents
Chuck van Zyl and Terry Furber
William Fields
Ambient • Electronic • Experimental • Space Music
Chuck Van Zyl and Terry Furber - Creating layers of space out of pumping sequencer patterns, strident lead lines and harmonies warm and golden Chuck van Zyl & Terry Furber explore the inner darkness of electronic music, yet out on the verg of ethereality their music gleams like new. Existing on a plane outside the oppressive rush of modernity this music quotes the classics of Spacemusic without mimicking them. Their musical sensibilities evoke a sense of discovery, with each concert marking a new frontier of sound.
Best known as host of STAR'S END (WXPN's renowned radio program of spacemusic dreamscapes) and as coordinator of The Gatherings (Philadelphia's premiere concert series of innovative music), Chuck van Zyl has also been making his own unique style of electronic music since 1983.
During the mid-90's Centaur Discs of Scotland released "Celestial Mechanics" (1993) and "The Relic" (1995). These albums compiled many of van Zyl's early cassette releases onto compact discs. It was during this same time period that Synkronos Music released "Regeneration Mode" (1994), the famous collaboration between Chuck van Zyl and The Nightcrawlers member Peter D. Gulch.
In 1992 Chuck van Zyl founded the group The Ministry of Inside Things. Along with guitarist Art Cohen they performed dozens of live concerts in various venues and unique spaces and released three live CDs on the Synkronos Music label: "Everlasting Moment" (2003), "Contact Point" (2006) and "Ambient Elsewhere" (2008).
"Cenotaph" is the forthcoming solo CD by Chuck van Zyl. The follow-up to "MemorySpace" (2010), "Cenotaph" is scheduled to be released by Synkronos Music on 17 November 2012 to coincide with his collaborative performance with Terry Furber at The Gatherings Concert Series.
Listening to the music of Terry Furber one would believe that digital synthesizers had never been invented. Furber demonstrates a masterful grasp of the vintage gear around which the spacemusic genre gravitates and explores the past in a new way. His music is discovered in the act of its making - with Furber perceiving the music as it is being realized.
Terry Furber's collaborative effort with guitarist Scott Watkins is the well-known duo Orbital Decay. They have created several self-released CDs of music produced out of their lengthy jam sessions, as well as the acclaimed studio album "Solar Maxima" (2006).4 Orbital Decay has performed live at E-Music, Soundscapes, Gate to Moonbase Alpha, The Whitaker Center, The STAR'S END 30th Anniversary Concerts and The Gatherings Concert Series as well as on several significant broadcasts of STAR'S END Ambient Radio.
Currently Terry Furber is exploring his own solo studio electronic music - as well as the possibilities of the live performance space with collaborator Chuck van Zyl on Saturday 7 December 2012 as part of the Event Horizon series. Both efforts will feature the many classic synthesizers Furber has acquired and restored over the years, including the classic full sound of his 1969 Moog 1P modular system.
William Fields - William Fields has been creating electronic music for almost 20 years – from textural ambience to hard-driving dance tracks, and everything in-between. He recognizes no boundaries of genre or style, always exploring the vast potential afforded by making music with computers. He is also a student of sound and acoustics, working to present the music in its best possible light.
William has released music on various record labels around the world such as: Audiobulb, Gears of Sand, earSnake, Hippocamp, tbtmo, and Kikapu. He has performed and DJ'd throughout the northeastern USA and Canada at events of various scales: from bars and small clubs to festivals with thousands of people. His composition Indra was featured – and choreographed for modern dance – at the 2006 International Computer Music Conference.
William is based in Wilmington, DE, just outside of Philadelphia, PA, USA.
The Event Horizon concert series is a Philadelphia, PA based concert series featuring Ambient, Electronic, Experimental and Space Music.

Sometimes scored as broadly as “for any number of players and any sound producing means,” Variation IV also includes 0’00”, Cage’s second version of 4’33”. See below for artist bios. *

* C. Spencer Yeh was born in Taipei, Taiwan, studied film at Northwestern University in Chicago IL, repped Cincinnati OH for many years, and is now based in Brooklyn NY. Originally introduced and developed in the context of music, Yeh’s work in recent years have become increasingly interdisciplinary, especially incorporating his background in film and video. As an improviser, Yeh is focused on developing a personal vocabulary using violin, voice, and electronics. In more compositional and organizational modes, Yeh works with all aspects physically, visually, conceptually, and aurally available. He is concerned not only with the sensual, but the gestural as well. Recognized for his musical projects Burning Star Core and CS Yeh, as well as many other individual and collaborative activities, Yeh has performed and presented work internationally in a wide spectrum of venues and situations.
Nate Wooley was born in 1974 in Clatskanie, Oregon, a town of 2,000 people in the timber country of the Pacific Northwestern corner of the U.S. He began playing trumpet professionally with his father, a big band saxophonist, at the age of 13. In the past three years, Wooley has been gathering international acclaim for his idiosyncratic trumpet language. Time Out New York has called him “an iconoclastic trumpeter”, and Downbeat’s Jazz Musician of the Year, Dave Douglas has said, “Nate Wooley is one of the most interesting and unusual trumpet players living today, and that is without hyperbole”. His work has been featured at the SWR JazzNow stage at Donaueschingen, the WRO Media Arts Biennial in Poland, Kongsberg and Copenhagen Jazz Festivals, and the New York New Darmstadt Festivals. He is currently an artist-in-residence at Brooklyn’s Issue Project Room and just completed a residency at London’s Café Oto.
Bonnie Jones is a Korean-American writer, improvising musician, and performer working primarily with electronic music and text. Born in 1977 in South Korea she was raised by dairy farmers in New Jersey, and currently resides in Baltimore, MD. Bonnie creates improvised and composed text-sound performances that explore the fluidity and function of electronic noise (field recordings, circuit bending) and text (poetry, found, spoken, visual). She is interested in how people perceive, “read” and interact with these sounds and texts given our current technological moment. Bonnie has presented her work in the US, Europe, and Asia and collaborates frequently with writers and musicians including Ric Royer, Carla Harryman, Andy Hayleck, Joe Foster, Andrea Neumann, Liz Tonne, and Chris Cogburn. She received her MFA at the Milton Avery School of the Arts at Bard College.
The sound installations and live turntable performances of Maria Chavez focus on the paradox of time and the present moment, with many influences stemming from improvisation in contemporary art. She was awarded the Jerome Foundation's Emerging Artist Grant by New York’s Roulette Intermedium and she became a recipient of the Van Lier Fellowship by The Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund of the New York Community Trust. Maria was an artist in residence with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, the Clocktower and the DIA:Beacon Museum. She has worked with Christian Marclay and the Whitney Museum of American Art in NYC as part of Christian Marclay: FESTIVAL and has shared the stage with renowned artists such as: Pauline Oliveros; Thurston Moore; Lydia Lunch; Phill Niblock and Otomo Yoshihide. She has recently been appointed Assistant Director of REVERSE, a contemporary artspace located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. REVERSE is a multidisciplinary workspace and art gallery with an emphasis on new and experimental forms of expression. This September, 2012, Maria presented her first book object entitled, Of Technique: Chance Procedures on Turntable. The book is now available for purchase at Printed Matter.
Christopher Colucci makes sound and music as a theater artist, composer and guitarist. In 2011, Christopher received a fourth Barrymore award for Outstanding Original Music and Sound Design for In the Next Room, or the vibrator play (Wilma Theater). This past summer Christopher attended the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space on a professional development trip sponsored by the Philadelphia Theatre Initiative. Recent productions include: Angels in America: Millennium Approaches (Wilma) and Mr. Hart and Mr. Brown (People's Light).
Cage: Beyond Silence is a major festival celebrating the music of John Cage. Taking place at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and venues across the city, events will unfold in three parts. The first, Move from Zero (October 26 - November 4, 2012) will provide an introduction to John Cage's music, focusing on seminal works from his early career, such as Sonatas and Interludes (1946 - 48) and Music of Changes (1951), 4'33" (1952), and will explore a variety of other stylistic periods through his solo repertoire. Parts two and three-subtitled The Year Begins to be Ripe (November 30 - December 12, 2012) and At Least We Have Begun (January 11 - 20, 2013) respectively-will juxtapose two of Cage's "magnum opuses," the mid-career polystylistic Song Books (Solos for Voice3-92) (1970) and the late-career meditative series of compositions titled Number Pieces (1987 - 1992). Several works will be given multiple performances, underlining the important role of the interpreter in realizing Cage's scores and emphasizing the ephemeral and changing nature of these indeterminate works.
This festival will be presented in conjunction with the Philadelphia Museum of Art's major exhibition Dancing around the Bride: Cage, Cunningham, Johns, Rauschenberg, and Duchamp.

ABOUT TAKII 14 ~NEW YEAR'S EVOLUTION~
The stockings will be hung from the chimney with care. Auld acquaintances shall not be forgot. And the seasonal references could go on & on & before we know it, TAKII 14 ~New Year's Evolution~ will be upon us! "The reason for the season" will be descending upon Philly, PA's The Rotunda on December 29th & 30th 2012, making it the perfect place to enjoy some after-Christmas chaos & pre-New Year's partying, otaku-fied TAKII-style! With the success of May 2012's TAKII 13 ~United We Stand~, we've carefully extracted the best parts of last season & will combine it with some plans for this beloved festival/convention hybrid that have been in the works for years, giving fans all over the universe something to salivate over before-hand & never forget once TAKII 14 comes to pass.
