Vision Driven Artists (VDA) exists to increase resources and opportunities for local artists and arts organizations.

This workshop will combine journaling exercises, and beginner yoga poses to encourage self-exploration and the practice of radical self-care.

Journaling is a form of Svadhyaya (self-study) that helps to connect us to our inner selves. By combining journaling and yoga, we will reflect and release to create the lives we wish to live. This workshop is for anyone interested in deeper self-reflection and learning how to add self-care practices into your daily life.

MEET YOUR FACILITATOR:

Singer and now yoga instructor, Jahwula completed her 200-HR Yoga Teacher Certification with Online Yoga School. Her additional certifications include Restorative Yoga and Chair Yoga.

Her yoga philosophy is rooted in practice, collaboration, and community. Jahwula's classes combine practical sequencing, complimentary sounds, and a dose of inspiration in my classes. I hope to provide an experience that nurtures the mind, strengthens the body, and feeds the soul with my yoga offering.

About this event

A 3-part series of moderated discussions and live performances showcasing local independent Black artists, intersecting cultures, spanning generations to celebrate the emerging works they've produced and their experiences in the industry.

The event is organized by Shekhinah B. and supported in part by Creative Philadelphia (Office of Arts Culture and the Creative Economy) and The Rotunda.

COVID Safety Guidelines & Precautions

- Everyone over the age of 2 will be required to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. 

- Performers/presenters and attendees will be asked to stay home if they feel unwell or have been in contact with someone diagnosed with Covid within 14 days of the event.

- Event organizers or the venue will register attendees and performers/presenters ahead of time or at the front desk, depending on the event, and will require them to alert us if they become sick after the event so that we can let everyone else know.

MEET YOUR FACILITATOR

Shekhinah B. the author of Take Charge: An Accountability Workbook, is an award-winning creative strategist, media content producer, and vocalist. Currently, Shekhinah is an Adjunct Professor teaching Intro to Arts Administration at the University of Cincinnati CollegeConservatory of Music. As a recipient of the Preserving Diverse Cultures award from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, she has made a significant impact by demonstrating excellence in cultural preservation as both the founder and director of Sistahs Attune (A vocal collective) of The Women's Coalition for Empowerment, Inc. Through successful art presentation and program management, she has successfully delivered multiple high-quality themed events accessible to the public. Best known for delivering innovative thought-provoking content, conveying creative concepts in cross-cultural mediums, infusing multimedia, live performance, and instrumentation.

She stays connected to Afro-centric art and culture with specializations in vocal performance within the following genres; Jazz, Soul, R&B, Funk, Afrobeat, and World music. Her experiences have allowed her to foster connections with notable arts institutions such as the Barnes Foundation, the Rotunda, and Creative Philadelphia. Sistahs Attune has received notable recognition in Philly News and multiple live broadcasts via Philly CAM and WRTI FM Temple Radio. The creator of the Art Economic Empowerment series, a workshop educating emerging artists on how to make their passions profitable. She has connected artists to paid performance opportunities highlighting their talents. She aims to continue enhancing workforce development outlets within the arts.
