Sides will be provided for actors to read, but you may also perform a monologue if you would like. Please bring a copy of your headshot and resume with you. 

All actors must be available for The Bridge PHL Theatre Festival dates: Thursday November 1st through Sunday November 4th, as well as for tech rehearsals on Monday October 29th and Tuesday October 30th. 

Performance Venue: The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street, Philadelphia.

Each play is 15 minutes or less, and rehearsal schedules will be set by each play’s individual director.

Life In Eight Parts  – Spencer VentrescaLife in Eight Parts is a semi-improvisational, semi-sketch, two-man show that attempts to shed light on life’s most important issues. Only In Your Dreams – Sarah Clemency / Philly Improv TheaterDom, seeking change in her humdrum of a life, finds herself in a fantastical dreamland that quickly becomes a nightmare. Will she be able to escape her own mind? This magical horror comedy musical is packed with songs that will have you laughing out of fear.

A Vacation – Poison Apple InitiativeColton loves life and makes the most of it. He’s travelled all over the world, appreciating culture and fostering connections with people. He’s explored North Korea, Crimea, and Afghanistan, and—now that the borders are open—he’s going to Purgatory. A dark comedy about manifesting and destiny.

Airport Opened – Brian Shapiro PresentsAirports are endlessly fascinating places—intersections of almost every imaginable personality with logistical challenges galore. Based upon interviews conducted with airport personnel globally, Airport Opened offers an opportunity to bear witness to an airport’s human side through the perspectives of people who actually work there.

Love Stories – Denise McCormackMaster storyteller Denise McCormack brings to life literary and traditional tales to capture the essence of women’s issues and issues of the heart. This one-woman stand-up sparks a flood of emotions and memories, as it revisits secret and soulful nuances of motherhood, childhood, family, and life—the dynamics of love. Intended for adults.

Starting Over – Kayleigh TaylorKay is a survivor of depression, addiction, and setbacks. Using words and song she’ll take you on a roller-coaster ride of horrific to wonderful experiences. Kay learned to accept herself, to love others, and that what matters most happens within us, not to us. Be inspired to see this in yourself too. Ticket cost includes dinner.

 Bon Iver Fights a Bear  – Doug WilliamsA fantasia based on Bon Iver writing his seminal debut album in a secluded cabin in the winter woods, told through the eyes of a crazy fucking grizzly bear who thinks his music sucks. Starring singer-songwriter Emily Schuman in a dirty hipster beard.

Song of My Self-Care – Jimmy GrzelakBe Hot Now. A workout for your abs and existential dread. Based on a long-lost self-help health-and-beauty book by Walt Whitman. Featuring theology, poetry, and original electro-pop music. Led by Jimmy Grzelak, veteran artist of U.S. and Canadian fringe festivals and “winningly offbeat imagination” (Washington Post).

The 40th Street Summer Series presents The York Street Hustle and Three AkshaThe York Street Hustle commands the crowd with classic sounds of the 1960s that are reinvigorated, reenergized and reborn. This band’s signature sound permeates through vintage tube amps, giving new life to this nostalgic art form. With grit, sweat, and attention to detail, The York Street Hustle is the Northeast’s premier 10-piece 1960s soul tribute. The repertoire now spans well over 70 songs including more than a decade worth of Detroit, Memphis and Chicago soul.

Openers Three Aksha seeks to preserve and promote Indian culture and heritage through classical Indian Bharatanatyam dance choreography. 

About the 40th Street Summer Series The 2018 40th Street Summer Series—co-produced by University City District, Penn, and The Rotunda—will take place this year on Saturdays May 19, June 23, July 14, August 18 and September 15 at the green space behind the Walnut Street Library at 40th and Walnut. Activities, free giveaways, and performances begin at 6 pm. If the weather is inclement, the Summer Series will move indoors to The Rotunda at 4014 Walnut Street.

The Summer Series has grown into one of the most popular outdoor summer events in University City. This free outdoor series features internationally-recognized talent in one of “West Philly’s picturesque open green spaces” (Philadelphia Weekly). In the past, the Summer Series has featured internationally-acclaimed acts such as the Millennial Territory Orchestra, Man Man, and the Sun Ra Arkestra, playing free outdoor concerts that capture the soul of the neighborhood. 

This is the 14th year for the 40th Street Summer Series, produced by  the University of Pennsylvania, The Rotunda, and University City District. 

Stop by beginning at 6pm for interactive activities with the University City Arts League and free scoops of ice cream from Ben & Jerry's. The University City Arts League will pop-up in the park to make elegant paper roses with a special musical theme. Join artist Rob Seitz for a fun for all ages activity.

We are excited to invite you to Al-Bustan's upcoming community meeting to discuss the future of our pocket park on 40th street. The next meeting will take place Tuesday, August 21st at the Rotunda at 4014 Walnut Street 5:30 - 7:30pm. This meeting will be a first look into design possibilities for the park. Our West Philly-based landscape architect team will be presenting design concepts, and some initial ideas for the pocket park. We have been really grateful for the insightful comments that the public has offered us in the past few months, and hope that we can incorporate your ideas into this new neighborhood space. We are excited to present what we have been working on, and to hear your feedback, as we continue to build a space that will be a hub of culture and activity for all. Hey, You Lucky Stuff!performances Saturday August 25 at 8pm and Sunday August 26 at 3pm"Hey, You Lucky Stuff!" a play inspired by "Nordic Personality & Arctic Syndrome", takes us to the summer of 1982, where college-bound Andy travels to Inuvik, Nunavut, (north of the Arctic Circle) to re-unite with his estranged father, Cezar. As the town’s Polish Lutheran missionary, Cezar is intent on converting Andy while he dreams of drilling for black gold between booze binges and working dull jobs. In Inuvik the sun doesn’t set during the summer and Donald(the blind Inuit who lives in Cezar’s mud room) enlightens Andy’s journey. All profits go towards, Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada.
