9am until 3pm.
The ages for the program are 7-16. Children go on field trips on

Event Horizon Series presentsNeil Nappe, Iron Gump & Sean Hoots, OnewaynessNeil Nappe - An Electronic/Guitar Synth and Progressive Acoustic guitarist, Neil Nappe is wellknown for his work with Roland Guitar Synthesizers as well as some of the earliest work with the then-emerging standard of MIDI and personal computers in music. His critically acclaimed LP 'July', released on Larry Fast's Passport/Audion label, was one of the first works of its kind, recorded entirely with guitar-synth and MIDI sequencing. His work cuts across a staggering variety of compositional styles. Nappe remains an innovator who eagerly embraces cutting-edge, experimental and often unwieldy technologies, atIron Gump, for the last seven years, has been traveling and living in Maui, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Philadelphia. Spontaneously connecting musically with different artists aound the world.Through his musical exploration he has gained a deeper understanding about allowing the instruments to play him and to listen/feel the other musicians playing as well. His connection to sound has become his passion and his way of creating a space for people to explore. The universe sings! Sean Hoots is a maker of music living in the land of West Philadelphia. Perhaps best known for his roots/rock project Hoots & Hellmouth, Hoots has been writing, recording, and performing original music across a myriad of genres for the past three decades. The last few years have found him delving deeper into the mysterious, crafting sprawling soundscapes from found-sounds, synths, guitars, and vocal manipulations. This world of contemplative, meditative music, especially when combined with the talents of Iron Gump, offers a unique opportunity for performer and listener to share a soul-plumbing experience.Onewayness is Adam Holquist, a composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist from Erie,Pennsylvania. He uses guitars, pianos, analog and digital synthesis, spoken word and field recordings, and a variety of hardware and software tools to create atmospheric and textural music which draws influence from a variety of sources. These may include: ambient, drone, minimalism, post-rock, and vintage and contemporary electronic 'listening music'.Admission is FREE

Ars Nova Workshop presents Universal Indians with Joe McPhee Joe McPhee, pocket trumpet + alto saxophone John Dikeman, saxophones Jon Rune Strøm, double-bass Tollef Østvang, drums Ars Nova Workshop is pleased to present the explosive Amsterdam-based free jazz trio Universal Indians along with their special guest, veteran improviser Joe McPhee. American-born saxophonist John Dikeman formed Universal Indians with the Norwegian rhythm section of bassist Jon Rune Strøm and drummer Tollef Østvang. The three draw inspiration from American and European free jazz pioneers from Cecil Taylor and Albert Ayler to Peter Brötzmann and Evan Parker, while adding new twists of their own. The trio invited multi-instrumentalist Joe McPhee to join them on the road in 2014, resulting in the unpredictable, inventive CD Skullduggery (Clean Feed). The live album features four extended excursions spotlighting the group’s taut interplay and constantly surprising sonic palette. Derek Taylor of Dusted Magazine praised the album’s “raw and raucous joys,” hailing the fact that “Though formed on the fly, the melodic integrity of these exchanges holds up to heavy scrutiny.” Born in Nebraska and raised in Wyoming, saxophonist John Dikeman left the relative isolation of his home behind in pursuit of creative music, which he explored through stints in Philly, New York, Cairo and Budapest before settling in Amsterdam nearly a decade ago, since performing with all of the major figures of the Dutch jazz scene. That includes the Norwegian rhythm duo of bassist Jon Rune Strøm and drummer Tollef Østvang, who also run the label Stone Floor Records and work together in the groups All Included and Friends and Neighbors. Joe McPhee has been a singular voice in creative jazz and new music since his emergence in the 1960s, working with a who’s who of artists including Brötzmann, Parker, Pauline Oliveros, Ken Vandermark and Mats Gustafsson. Fire Museum presents :Susan AlcornEvan LipsonEric CarbonaraSusan Alcorn: One of the world's premiere musical innovators of her instrument, Baltimore-based Susan Alcorn has taken the pedal steel guitar far beyond its traditional role in country and western swing music. Known among steel guitarists for her virtuosity and authenticity in a traditional context, Alcorn first paid her dues in Texas country & western bands. Soon she began to expand the vocabulary of her instrument through her study of modern classical music (Messiaen, Varese, Penderecki), the deep listening of Pauline Oliveros, Astor Piazzolla’s nuevo tango, free jazz, and world musics (Indian rags, South American songs, and gamelan orchestra). Her pieces reveal the complexity of her instrument and her musical experience while never straying from a very direct, intense, and personal musical expression. "From the relatively unadorned sound of pedal steel and amplifier, Susan Alcorn brings forth music that is as full of emotional honesty as it is of melodic and harmonic exploration and surprise. She possesses a virtuosic technique that is always at the service of the musical moment and its possibilities for expression and communication." - Kevin Macneil Brown/DustedSusan will perform a solo set then a duo set with Evan LipsonEvan Lipson has operated as a musician since adolescence-intuitively seeking the liminal zones in which intellect and instinct, history and myth, and creative and destructive force intersect. Drawn towards aberrant perspectives at an early age, his formative experiences were primarily rooted in extreme and often discordant forms of rock, improvised music, modernist composition, jazz, outsider pop, soundtracks, and noise.Eric Carbonara (Philadelphia): is a guitarist, composer, and audio engineer currently based in Philadelphia. His reverence for raw and honest aural expression has led him far and wide, composing works that embrace noise, improvisation, and aleatoric elements for the guitar. Carbonara's work stems from the belief that music is a vehicle for self expression and universal truth, a belief shared by his teacher, Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya. His playing weaves a variety of traditional forms producing a kind of exalted pidgin style in which one can recognize influences of Hindustani slide guitar music, Andalusian Roma-Flamenco, and 20th-century guitar compositions yet find it difficult to pinpoint any singular derivative source. Carbonara has released 7 solo/duet albums and has been featured on many compilations from labels including VHF, Locust Music, Tompkins Square, and Majumua Music, among others. In March of 2014, Carbonara released Tributes and Diatribes with harpist Jesse Sparhawk on VHF Records.Carbonara's strengths lie in blending and juxtaposing seemingly polarized themes, revealing a more honest and thorough depiction of himself. Marc Masters in Pitchfork writes "His guitar often sounds idyllic but also filled with tension; his careful picks and strums could easily dive into darkness. Such countering themes are a product of Carbonara's approach to guitar, which is guided equally by physical technique and abstract imagery."Carbonara has toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe alongside fellow guitarists such as Alexander Turnquist (VHF), Nick Schillace, William Tyler (MERGE), and Nick Millevoi (TZADIK). When not working in the studio as an engineer/producer, he is at work composing and extending his technique and abilities. Carbonara has been featured in Pitchfork, Washington Post, Chicago Reader, Philly Weekly, etc. and has performed live on WNYC's "Spinning on Air", WFMU, WPRB, WPSU, WNUR, among many other radio programs.links at http://www.museumfire.com/eventsAdmission is FREE but donations are gladly accepted!
