Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead
100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror he saw a 310lb man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn't end well— with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn't far behind. FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe's personal mission to regain his health.
With doctors and conventional medicines unable to help long- term, Joe turns to the only option left, the body's ability to heal itself. He trades in the junk food and hits the road with juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for the next 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe has one goal in mind: To get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle.
While talking to more than 500 Americans about food, health and longevity, it's at a truck stop in Arizona where Joe meets a truck driver who suffers from the same rare condition. Phil Staples is morbidly obese weighing in at 429 lbs; a cheeseburger away from a heart-attack. As Joe is recovering his health, Phil begins his own epic journey to get well.
What emerges is nothing short of amazing – an inspiring tale of healing and human connection.

Course Description:
This one hour workshop will serve as an introduction to the world of live projections and reactive programming. Using his personal experience as a guide, Patrick Proctor will give students a hands-on look at his own projects, insight into available technologies, and the steps to getting started with reactive programming. The course will include a comparison of available coding frameworks, discussion of different audio and video hardware options, and the ways in which software development choices can affect visual output. Additionally, he will discuss the challenges of the live environment and on-the-fly solutions. The course will conclude with a hands-on Q&A, as well as takeaway materials in the form of a reference web site.
Patrick Proctor is a designer and technologist currently working as the Digital Projects Lead at Viemeister Industries in New York City. After over ten years of professional experience as a software developer at companies such as Microsoft and Dolby Laboratories, he obtained a masters degree from NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program in 2011. Since then he has focused on technology as a tool for experience creation. This has included a growing body of work focusing on reactive projections for live environments and "in camera" video effects. Over the past year he has worked with bands such as Lucius, Inzinzac, Desert Stars, and Viewfinder to create a unique repertoire of immersive visual experiences.

On his most recent solo-guitar release, In White Sky (Flenser Records), Millevoi combines his 6- and 12-string electric guitars with drones and extreme volume to create a startling new work. Nick is a member of the noise-rock-free jazz trio Many Arms, whose self-titled fourth album was released in 2012 by John Zorn's Tzadik label. Nick also has an ongoing collaboration with bassist/guitarist Edward Ricart whose first LP will be released in 2013 on Gaffer Records, and makes one half of the duo Archer Spade with trombonist Dan Blacksberg.
Nick has toured extensively as a solo guitarist as well as with Many Arms, Make A Rising, Electric Simcha, and Archer Spade. With Dan Blacksberg, the duo curate the Archer Spade Performance Series, a monthly concert series that has brought musicians from all over the globe to perform in Philadelphia. Nick has collaborated with many great artists, including Gene Coleman, Toshimaru Nakamura, Keir Neuringer, Thomas Buckner, Ken Ueno, Ches Smith, Travis LaPlante, Weasel Walter, Kevin Shea, Joe Lally, and many others. Millevoi is also a member of the bands Deveykus (Tzadik) and Electric Simcha, and is a former member of Make A Rising.
The Village Voice has called Nick a "guitar-wielding, audience-massacring hero," and music journal Burning Ambulance has described him as, "A fierce player who knows his way around a riff and can tie himself, and the listener, in knots with his contorted, passionate soloing." The World Premiere of a "TCHMENTREACH"by Mick Barr for Archer Spade!

Archer Spade (Dan Blacksberg/Nick Millevoi) will premiere "TCHMENTREACH," a newly commissioned piece by super-shredder Mick Barr.
Mick Barr
Mick Barr is an American avant-garde metal guitarist. Notable for his relentless speed and agility on his instrument,[1] he is most well known for being one half of the band Orthrelm, currently signed to Mike Patton's Ipecac Recordings label.
Some of Barr's other projects have included Crom-tech, and a duo with drummer Zach Hill from Hella, as well as appearances with Quix*o*tic, and The Flying Luttenbachers. He has also released albums under the names Ocrilim and Octis, consisting of his own guitar over a drum machine. On the difference between the two, he says "Ocrilim is Mick Barr overthinking. Octis is Mick Barr underthinking. These names mean nothing when a live show is concerned. Come see Ocrilim and you may be forced to watch Octis."[2]
In 2008, he was awarded an unrestricted grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts through their Grants to Artists program. Barr has been chosen by Animal Collective to perform at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival that they will curate in May 2011.
Jeremiah Cymerman
Jeremiah Cymerman is a New York City-based composer, clarinetist, producer and sound engineer. Described as “an impenitent genre-breaker whose membership among today’s greats must be granted now” (Massimo Ricci, Touching Extremes), whose music strikes “a compelling balance between hallucinatory sound sculpting and the immediacy of improvised music” (Jason Bivins, Dusted Magazine) his work has been performed numerous times at venerable Downtown institutions Roulette, The Stone, Issue Project Room and Anthology Film Archives. Frequently using the recording studio as a primary compositional tool, Cymerman’s work reflects a passionate interest in improvisation, electronic manipulation & production, traditional, studio & graphic composition as well as solo clarinet performance and ensemble performance. Having worked with a broad range of contemporary artists including Toby Driver, John Zorn, Nate Wooley, Brian Chase, Mario Diaz de Leon, Jessica Pavone, Jandek, Anthony Coleman and Matthew Welch, Cymerman has toured internationally, received numerous commissions and published several articles on music and music production in publications such as Tape-Op magazine and the acclaimed Arcana book series, edited by John Zorn. He has released several recordings of his own music and his recorded output has been documented on the Tzadik and Porter record labels as well as his own, recently launched label, 5049 Records.

Michael McDermott (Mikronesia) is a Philadelphia based composer, musician and producer. His musical tentacles extend into eight sound disciplines: ambient/soundscape recordings and performance, music for dance, music for films, interactive and static sound/media installations, playing keyboards in musical ensembles, composing music for electro-acoustic ensembles, producing other musicians in the studio and the creation of musical/sound design software.
Since the early 2000s Michael has been an active member of the Philaelphia electronic music scene. He has hosted a recurring open forum improvisational electronic music event (now called SHARE Philly) at various venues for the past 10 years. He has played keyboards in live electronic music based bands such as Gemini Wolf and Robots in Disguise.
Michael is a co-founder of the Philadelphia based label and music collective, earSnake. He also performs, writes and produces in the electronic music ensemble Gemini Wolf with Megan Cauley. Since its inception in 2005,Gemini Wolf has performed throughout the US and Europe and released five albums on earSnake. As a solo performer, Michael performs under the moniker Mikronesia on piano and electronics. He has performed in major cities around the world including New York, Toronto, Berlin, Paris and London.
Michael has scored music and sound design for dozens of choreographers over the years. He has created original music scores for movement-based artists such as Perpetual Mvmt<>Snd, Here Begin Dance, Ring Dance Theater, Jaamil Kosoko and Nora Gibson Performance Group.
Jesse Kudler- Born 1979, improvises on guitar, electronics, radios, and tapes and makes solo performance pieces and the occasional sound installation.
Kudler lives in Philadelphia. Current and "recent" projects include: live music with film; sound installation; a duo with Chandan Narayan; a duo with Ian Fraser; HZL, an environmental electronics duo with Tim Albro; duos with Chris Cogburn and Christian Weber; Benito Cereno (with Dustin Hurt, Chandan Narayan, Tim Albro, and Ian Fraser); Tweeter, a treble-intensive noise trio with Alex Nagle and Eli Litwin; and various ad hoc groupings. Kudler is the co-founder and co-Director (with Ian Fraser) of the Philadelphia Sound Forum.
He performed as part of the 2012-13 Cage: Beyond Silence festival, 2011 Sonic Circuits Festival, 2010 No Idea Festival, 2008 Dartmouth Festival of New Musics, and the 2007 Phoneme Festival.
NB: "Kudler" rhymes with “muddler.” Many friends refer to him as "the Kud."
The Event Horizon concert series is a Philadephia, PA based concert series featuring Ambient, Electronic, Experimental and Space Music.

Teens who participate in the slams earn points to qualify for the PYPM Slam Team, which competes at annual Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Festival and Slam held in various cities across the U.S with over 50 other youth poetry teams from around the world.

Bowerbird pres. JACK QUARTET perform works by Nono, Lachenman, and Berenson.
The internationally acclaimed JACK Quartet returns for a concert featuring masterworks by Luigi Nono, Helmut Lachenman, and the world premiere of Philadelphia based composer Adam Berenson's String Quartet No. 3. In addition to the new work, JACK will perform Lachenmann's own String Quartet No. 3 "Grido" (2001), and Nono's radical late period contribution to the genre, Fragmente-Stille, an Diotima (1980).
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
The JACK Quartet electrifies audiences worldwide with "explosive virtuosity" (Boston Globe) and "viscerally exciting performances" (New York Times). The Washington Post commented, "The string quartet may be a 250-year-old contraption, but young, brilliant groups like the JACK Quartet are keeping it thrillingly vital." The quartet has performed to critical acclaim at Wigmore Hall, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Library of Congress, La Biennale di Venezia, and Carnegie Hall. Comprising violinists Christopher Otto and Ari Streisfeld, violist John Pickford Richards, and cellist Kevin McFarland, JACK is focused on the commissioning and performance of new works, leading them to work closely with composers including Helmut Lachenmann, György Kurtág, and Wolfgang Rihm.

June 21st, 2013 is the last day of school for all Philadelphia School District students. The Summer Solstice Jam will occur the following day (June 22nd, 2013). We know and understand the need for young peoples to be engaged in healthy activities that peak and maintain their interest. We will reach out to the young people in our community before they begin to wander the streets aimlessly; in order that we may plant the seeds of progress and prevention in them.
MEANING OF THE SUMMER SOLSTICE
The summer solstice marks the first day of the summer season. This is when Earth has her longest day in the Northern Hemisphere as it enters the astronomical constellation of Cancer. The Summer Solstice Jam is the cultural observation and expression by indigenous peoples from Coquannock [Philadelphia] of this celestial event.

EXPANDED 40TH STREET SUMMER SERIES
University of Pennsylvania, University City District (UCD), and The Rotunda are pleased to announce the 2013 (and newly-expanded!) concert calendar for the annual 40th Street Summer Series, the free outdoor performance series in University City.
Scheduled for the last Saturdays in May to September, the 40th Street Summer Series will transform the 40th Street Field into a family-friendly center of global sounds and good vibrations.
These free outdoor performances will feature internationally-renowned ensembles including Brooklyn Qawwali Party (performing/reworking the music of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan), the whimsicalPhiladelphia Ukulele Orchestra, the Millennial Territory Orchestra (performing the music of Sly and The Family Stone), Spaceship Aloha(featuring Man Man's Chris Powell), and more to be announced.

Spaceship Aloha is the vibrant new sonic move from Man Man drummer/producer Christopher Sean Powell. Spaceship Aloha’s performances present a kaleidoscope of lush melodies and joyous electronic rhythms inspired by Hawaii’s musical landscape. Intended for non-stop dancing, the live show is bursting with elements of vivid beats, refreshing sounds, and adventurous improvisation - all performed on an ecosystem of synthesizers, sequencers, electronic drums, and live percussion. This new project continues the wild energy of Powell’s explosive performances in Need New Body & Man Man, with a “future tropical” twist. Philadelphia’s Inspyre will open the evening with breathtaking hoop dancing and fire dancers.
