Event Horizon Series presentsNuminous Vision: acoustic soundscapes Tadzio: electroc-acoustic art pop about death and anxiety Ace Paradise: improvisational electronic soundscapes Artist infoNuminous Vision - (Acoustic Soundscapes) The band includes members of Elkhorn and Ominous Cloud Ensemble Tadzio - Tadzio is an ensemble of Philadelphia/DC based musicians who share an interest in creating evocative sonic landscapes that blend warm acoustic tones (harp, piano, flute, percussion) with electronic instrumentation. The project originally formed around the collaboration between Ross Lipton (pianist), Darian Scatton (harpist) and Mandy Katz (vocalist) in the winter of 2009. From its earliest stages, the ensemble’s main focus was exploring the gray area between the open-ended narratives of modern art music with the emotional directness and intimacy of songwriters such as Nico and Bjork. The realization of this project was 2013’s Queen of the Invisible LP (Edible Onion Records), a song cycle loosely based on a collection of Herman Hesse poems. In the following years, there were a few line-up changes; Shaina Kapeluck (vocals) and Alison Stout (synthesizers, flute) rounded out the permanent line-up. From 2013 to 2018, Tadzio scored several theatrical productions (Nighthawks), dance pieces (Nanina Kotlowski-Silent Scream), radio productions (Superscience Me) and dramatic reading performances (James Joyce Bloomsday-Vienna 2018). The underground anti-corporate "Puerto Punk"icons known as RICANSTRUCTION will be reuniting for the first time in thirteen years for a special Rican Rebel Resistance performance/concert on Friday, June 7th at 7PM at one of their old stomping grounds, The Rotunda in Philadelphia, PA!!!RICANSTRUCTION will be joined by Philadelphia's own Rican rock rebels, kandela!!!! RICANSTRUCTION was formed in 1996 by the vocal vandal known as Not4Prophet (aka Zero Prophet of Abrazos Army and X-Vandals), riddim section subversives, Arturo and Joseph "sickFoot" Rodriguez and guitarist Eddie "Alsiva" Alsina. The Rodriguez brothers and Alsina were Boricua bombers from Harlem, NY who had held the beat down for everyone from post Cro-Mag punk project Both Worlds, to Blues legend Johnny Copeland. While Not4Prophet, was a housing project poet and graffiti writer known mostly for writing on "private" property" and shouting in the street. RICANSTRUCTION started out playing in the squats and alternative punk spaces of the Lower East Side in NYC, and could be seen and heard at nearly every political protest, rally or demonstration you could possibly get arrested at. Along the way they were banned from several NYC clubs, until they found a home at the (in)famous CBGB. When Eddie Alsina left the band in 1997, they recruited, guitarist, Fidel Paulino, a santero speed-metal shredder who rican-pleted the RICANSTRUCTION rebellion and was featured on their debut full length release, Liberation Day in 1998. With Fidel, they organized several DIY (do it yourself) tours throughout the U.S and Latin America. RICANSTRUCTION's last guitarist was Steven "Albizoo" Maldonado, who toured the US with the band before they dis-banded in 2006.Other members of RICANSTRUCTION through the years included Taina Asili, (of Anti-Product and La Banda Rebelde) and Roger Vasques (of Ill Nino).RICANSTRUCTION's final performance was on September 23, 2006 at a United Nations rally in NYC, on the one year anniversary of the FBI assassination of Ejercito Popular Boricua - Machetero leader, Filiberto Ojeda Rios.Admission is FREE

Followed by a brief discussion.PANTHER (1995) Actor/director Mario Van Peebles followed up the successful New Jack City and Posse with PANTHER, a fictionalized history chronicling the far-reaching changes effected by the radical group the Black Panthers during the late 1960s. Marcus Chong and Courtney B. Vance starred as Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. Bokeem Woodbine, Chris Rock, Bobby Brown, Angela Bassett and Jennifer Lewis were among the dozens of supporting players. This would prove to be the last film directed by Van Peebles to receive major distribution. It briefly was available on DVD, but is now long out of print.THE WALKING DEAD (1995) Preston A. Whitmore II made his writing/directing debut with the gritty Vietnam war film starring Allen Payne, Eddie Griffin and Joe Morton. four black Marines are sent on a doomed prisoner-of-war rescue mission. The four men are what's left of a platoon that's been decimated after landing behind enemy lines. In charge is Sergeant Barkley (Joe Morton), a no-nonsense, Bible-quoting preacher who is leading three privates to find a POW camp in an abandoned temple. Cole Evans (Allen Payne) is an intellectual who is highly political, racially proud, and a devoted family man. Joe Brooks (Vonte Sweet) is a cheerful, naïve, and brave young soldier. Hoover Branche (Eddie Griffin) is a dope-smoking, foul-mouthed rebel who hates the war and fights the sergeant constantly. They eventually are joined by a crazy, bloodthirsty white soldier, Pippins (Roger Floyd). To this date, it has not been released on DVD or Blu-Ray.Admission is FREE

Stargazer Lily helped define Philadelphia’s music scene in the early 2000s. On the strength of four LPs and extensive touring during that period, they built a loyal fan base throughout the Northeast and beyond. After a decade of growth and change, and a renewed love of making music together, they are back with their energetic and emotional brand of pop rock - and plans for a new record in 2019.Opening the show is Ashley Phillips, a singer-songwriter who weaves together her original music with traditional folk, spirituals, and pop songs in service of speaking to the times we are in. Ashley is featured on the record LeadBelly, Baby! with Grammy Award winning Dan Zanes & Friends. Her experiences with all-age audiences has inspired the project Sunfolk Sing-along, which centers Black American roots and folk music tradition for the whole family to enjoy! Bowerbird is pleased to present New Perplexity (Daniel Fishkin, Cleek Schrey, Ron Shalom) in an evening of new works created during their upcoming artists-in-residence at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center. New Perplexity is a composer-performer collective intent on creating new contexts for the daxophone, a thin hardwood strip played with a bow, created by the German improviser/inventor Hans Reichel in 1987. The instrument’s sound, somewhere between a cello and badger, ranges from furtive gurgles and delicate whistles to wild screams. In 2015 they performed at Dublin’s Science Gallery as part of Trauma: Built to Break, an exhibition on art and trauma. In 2016 they participated in Daniel Fishkin’s ambitious series of concerts in Philadelphia, supported by The Pew Center, which posed the question “What is Tinnitus Music?”. As an ensemble of the same instrument, more so than the string quartet or trio, they find themselves in the spiritual lineage of the viol consort. The group improvises, makes original work, and commissions new works from other artists, including a new quartet by the esteemed experimental composer Alvin Lucier. Future collaborations include the electronic music pioneer David Behrman.Admission is FREE
