  • 6:00 PMIn-person! Midnight Radio: A Tender-Hearted Experimental Punk Song Writing Workshop Series, for people of all marginalized genders
  • 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM Midnight Radio: A Tender-Hearted Experimental Punk Song Writing Workshop Series, for people of all marginalized gendersMonday nights from August 11th through September 15th, 6:00-8:30pm

WHAT: A queer, feminist, experimental + therapeutic take on punk song writing, interlaced with anti-Zionist Jewish ritual and mysticism. Sessions include a combo of checking in + getting to know each other; framing / inspiration / prompts; structured parallel play; and time for processing + optional sharing. Facilitator will schedule 1:1 calls with each participant before the series begins to connect about access needs, relationship to the voice, and our Informed Consent Doc. This project honors the POC invention of punk, and a portion of proceeds will go to co-founders of the band Fuck U Pay Us via The Uhuru Dream House and a celebration fund for Jasmine Nyende. A portion of proceeds will also go to Rawa — a Palestinian initiative supporting emancipatory grassroots organizing throughout historic Palestine.

WHY: To splash around together in the creation of experimental punk music — to feel our aliveness + courage on a cellular level; to give less f’s about what doesn’t matter and root more wholly + wildly into what does; to deepen our capacity to fight for / build a liberated future for all bodies. The goal is not to leave with a ‘complete song(s)’ although that might happen!

  • 7:00 PM - 10:30 PM BRIGHT BULB SCREENINGS, Free Screenings Every Second Thursday of the Month @ The Rotunda (4014 Walnut, Philly)Follow Bright Bulb Screenings on Facebook, InstagramEarly Kaiju Series ULTRA Q Marathon! Three Hours of Big Monster Mayhem!- - - - -Produced in 1966, ULTRA Q was the first TV series created by Eiji Tsuburaya, the co-creator of GODZILLA and special effect genius behind numerous Toho Studios kaiju classics. ULTRA Q was originally planned as a TWILIGHT ZONE-style anthology series but the Tokyo Broadcasting System's polling showed that audiences had a strong craving for the sort of giant monsters they were seeing on movie screens. Tsuburaya's relationship with Toho gave him access to the props and costumes of past feature films, allowing ULTRA Q to re-purpose and alter previous big screen beasts, including Godzilla himself, given a horn and renamed “Gomess” in the series debut.ULTRA Q follows a trio, a woman reporter (Hiroku Sikuri, Akiko from ULTRAMAN) and two aviators, as they're sent to investigate various giant monsters causing havoc in self-contained half-hour tales. The series would last 28 episodes and run through 1967.Shot in gorgeous black-and-white, ULTRA Q got the ball rolling for the TV kaiju genre but it would be Eiji Tsuburaya's follow-up, ULTRAMAN that would induct U.S. children into a legion of fans for Japanese giant monster imports. While ULTRAMAN became a sensation in U.S. TV syndication, ULTRA Q never found distribution beyond Japan and would be unseen by U.S. audiences until its restoration in the early 2000s, allowing American audiences to experience the heady birth of TV kaiju, whose audience continues to grow to gargantuan proportions to this day.Admission is FREEFollow Bright Bulb Screenings on Facebook, Instagram

  • 7:00 PMIn-person! Clavius Productions presents Henbane, Heaven Man, and ZAM
  • 7:00 PM - 10:30 PM Clavius Productions presents an evening of guitar-driven psychedelia encompassing various subgenres of rock including avant-jazz, acid folk, prog, space rock and shoegaze, featuring bands with unique original compositions, fresh takes on cover material and a large dose of progressive improvisation. Hailing from Philadelphia, Henbane (members of Kohoutek/The Deadeyes/Bitter Wish) formed in May 2023 with the concept of using the Fairport Convention blueprint to explore traditional folk ballads and originals but with a modern approach. Also hailing from Philly, quartet Heaven Man draws inspiration from the revolutionary sounds of '60s psych rock, early garage, and Krautrock, offering a modern twist reminiscent of artists like Chris Forsyth, My Morning Jacket, Garcia Peoples and William Tyler. And coming from DC and NYC is trio ZAM, making their local debut and featuring the jaw-dropping guitar wizardry of Anthony Pirog of the Messthetics (which sees Fugazi's rhythm section joining Pirog). Rooted in structured improvisation and stretching the boundaries of genre, ZAM plays "hard ambient music" navigating through noise, rock, ambient, new age, glitch, drone, hardcore, sludge, psychedelia, electronica and free music. Their debut LP on Ramble Records, Waves of Seeing, sees the trio connect several genres with a cinematic sensibility, swirling with electromagnetic aberrations, sometimes in grueling opposition and sometimes in delicate, meditative sympathy.Donations appreciated.
