We are pleased to host Paul Steinke, Executive Director of the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, who will present Growing Through Preservation: The Economic Impact of Historic Preservation in Philadelphia. This new report quantifies how preservation contributes to the city’s economy, housing, and community vitality.
The study reveals that historic preservation initiatives are a significant economic driver, generating billions in investment, creating thousands of jobs annually, and supporting affordable housing through the reuse of older buildings. It also contributes to sustainability goals by reducing embodied carbon. Historic districts contribute to economic vitality as locations of choice for businesses. These neighborhoods offer character-rich retail and office locations that vary in size and affordability, making them attractive to a diversity of businesses, start-ups, and creative industries.
With a special emphasis on historic district-rich West Philadelphia, join Paul and UCHS to learn about this analysis that was commissioned by the Alliance to quantify the impact of preservation initiatives and how we could leverage preservation moving forward to increase positive outcomes for our neighborhoods.
