The Red Masque's CD Release Party at The Rotunda
The show is Free but donations are encouraged.
Philadelphia’s The Red Masque have been playing their dark and incendiary brand of music since 2001. Part art, part alchemy, the group's experimental songwriting style is both angular and eerie, accented by freeform space rock improvisations, intricate acoustics, dark atmospherics and chunky riffs. Unconventional and eccentric in musical form, the sophisticatedly sinister The Red Masque fuses together such disparate musical references as horror movie soundtracks, rock-in-opposition, progressive rock, experimental, zeuhl, heavy rock and metal, gothic, psychedelia, space rock, and kraut rock.
The show at The Rotunda is the CD release show for their latest album, Mythalogue, released on the experimental music label Beta-lactam Ring Records (Oregon). Funded entirely through a spring 2012 Kickstarter campaign, Mythalogue was recorded at Orion Sound Studios in Baltimore by Engineer Mike Potter and mixed by acclaimed producer and progressive rock musician Bob Drake in France. The Red Masque’s show at the Rotunda will feature songs off of Mythalogue as well as some material off of previous records. In addition, after the musical performance, The Red Masque’s Brandon Lord Ross and Steve Craig (who have been working with film) will be showing a few experimental and horror shorts, videos and trailers.
The Red Masque Lineup:
Lynnette Shelley: vocals and percussion;
Brandon Lord Ross: bass, keys;
Nicholas Giannetti: guitars;
Steve Craig: drums
Radio Eris
Philadelphia’s “post-everything band” Radio Eris will be opening the show. Being versatile and experimental, Radio Eris has myriad influences but no obvious genre. Performances have ranged from ambient and mellow to punk-rock loud. Sometimes spoken-word, sometimes a psychedelic punk band, sometimes a free-rock improv noise throw-down…sometimes a little of each all in the same set.
Founded in 1999 by Lora Bloom and Matt Stevenson, the thriving band of veteran cozmik rockers features Dan "Redbeard" Baker on guitar, and the mysterious Kenny on synthesizers and noise. Radio Eris will be performing with guest drummer Ed Wilcox from Temple of Bon Matin. The band has released 5 albums, run out of gas on the A-4 in eastern France, bought a house, hung out with members of Hawkwind, toured the South in a midnight-blue van in August, and had any number of other adventures across the last decade.
