ROCK AND READ FEST SUPPORTS MUSIC AND EDUCATION
Philadelphia, PA. - All are invited to Rock to the Future's first Rock and Read Fest on September 16th.
Whether you have old books sitting around ready to donate, or are looking for a new favorite read, the book swap is a perfect opportunity for people of all ages to help encourage reading in the community. Whether you like rock and roll, or poetry, this event is also the perfect opportunity to hear local artists' work. Poetry and readings will take place between music by bands such as The National Rifle, The Really Cooks, Oh Bree, and The Rock to the Future All Stars. This event is family friendly, and all ages are welcome. A six dollar donation (five dollars with a student ID) will go to supporting music education in Philadelphia.
Founded in 2010, Rock to the Future, which combines an afterschool music education and youth development program at no cost to students, is the only program of its kind in the city. It is open to Philadelphia students ages 9-14 and focuses on incorporating music education with academics to create success in school and in life by improving cognitive development, learning capacity, socialization skills, self-esteem and creative thinking. Students learn to play an instrument – their choice of guitar, bass guitar, drums, vocals or keyboards – and also receive homework help.
Doors at 5pm / All Ages / $6 or $5 with a student ID
