We want to make people aware that in our city, there is a need to support LGBTQ Immigrants who face xenophobia, racism, homophobia and transphobia. Many LGBTQ immigrants face unique challenges and injustice. These include navigating the application for asylum based on sexual orientation, demanding the rights of transgender individuals in immigration detention, and mourning the isolation from mainstream non-immigrant LGBTQ communities. LGBTQ immigrants are often isolated and not seen.
We believe that building awareness and creating change through visibility and education are the first step in mitigating the injustices faced by LGBTQ immigrants as well as improving our interconnected lives. We hope that the Listening Forum will be the first step in addressing the challenges faced by LGBTQ immigrants.
