**A SPECIAL**
Friends of 40th Street Meeting
Land Bank 2012
West Philly Community Briefing
Friends of 40th Street in partnership with People's Emergency Center and SCI- West will host a Community Briefing for interested West Philadelphia residents about the Philadelphia Land Bank 2012 Campaign.
A Land Bank, in short, is an entity with the authority to handle acquisition, maintenance, and sale of vacant property.
This community briefing will explore how a Land Bank could help the city to eliminate blight, reduce crime, rebuild neighborhoods, raise millions of dollars annually for city services and schools, and begin to recoup the $3.4 billion in equity now being lost by homeowners due to declining home values . . . all without raising taxes.
Why is this Important?
Because 2012 is the year for a Philadelphia Land Bank
* Legislation has been introduced in city council to create a Philadelphia Land Bank.
* State enabling legislation authorizing local governments to create Land Banks has passed the House and is in the Senate.
* Mayor Nutter through the Redevelopment Authority (PRA) is creating an inventory and data base of all publiclly owned surplus vacant land.
* Citizens and organizations across the city are uniting in support of a Land Bank.
